PokerStars set a date for their fourth New Jersey Championship of Online Poker, and a Pennsylvania Championship of Online Poker could be next.
It costs $10 to obtain a dog licence in New Jersey.
It costs $2 to get your hands on a firearm license.
The Governor is doing something about it, and it doesn’t involve killing all of the dogs with guns. Gov. Philip D. Murphy plans to increase the costs of owning a firearm to one of the highest levels in the country.
Theoretically, increasing costs means amateur Wyatt Earps will change thoughts of owning a Pancor Jackhammer to buying a parrot, a pail of pickles or take up online poker.
It’s an excellent time to choose the latter.
PokerStars has set a date for the fourth iteration of the New Jersey Championship of Online Poker (NJSCOOP). Across May 4 – 20, PokerStars customers can compete in 82-events (41 high, 41 low) of all description including Hold’em, Omaha, Stud and Mixed Games, and variants such as Progressive Knockout, Win the Button and Marathon events.
The last series became the most impressive to date when players contributed more than $1.5m to the prize pools, so it’s as surprising as a kid telling his teacher that he wants to be a miner when he grows up to learn that this year, PokerStars has lowered the guarantees.
Instead of $1.3m, customers get $1.03m, and if that’s a typo, you can blame the folks at PocketFives and PokerFuse whom I gleaned this information.
Seventy of the previous 80 events met the guarantee including the $200k GTD Main Event {H} (the $40k GTD Low Main Event missed it by $4k). This year the $500 buy-in Main Event {H} sees the guarantee drop from $200k to $130k.

It’s the third major event that PokerStars has held in New Jersey this year after the 15-event Winter Series (Jan) and the 28-event Turbo Series(Feb).
PokerStars prepare for Pennsylvania launch
As CalvinAyre scribe, Steven Stradbroke, explained here, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) declared that the state’s online casino and poker market would restart on July 15, meaning the grinders who took up ornithology when the online poker market died in 2011 can put those binoculars away.
One of the newly refurbished online poker rooms that will carry a fresh Haagen Dazs milkshake smell will be PokerStars. The Stars Group subsidiary is in the Pennsylvania business courtesy of their partnership with the Mount Airy Casino Resort.
The cost of an online poker license is $10m, slightly higher than those funky dogs and deer guns.
