WSOP 2013 Main Event Final Table: Sylvain Loosli falls short of Top 3, finishes in 4th place

wsop-2013-main-event-day-7-summary-tp-videoJust like that, the November Nine is down to three players.

Ryan Riess wasn’t going to let Jay Farber have all the fun. After the latter disposed of JC Tran and Marc-Etienne McLaughlin in rapid succession, it was Riess’ turn to take out a competitor.

The unwitting victim turned out to be Frenchman Sylvain Loosli, who was desperate for some good luck as the short stack. With just 9.825 million in chips, Loosli pushed all-in with Qh7c. It wasn’t exactly one of his strongest hands of the day, but that’s what happens when you’re trying to gain any advantage you can get.

But Riess was having none of it, and with a Ac10h in his hand, Riess quickly called, potentially setting up another exit in the Final Table. When the flop was turned, it showed 9hKs8h, helping neither men improve their hands. But Riess didn’t need to improve his hand; he just wanted Loosli not to hit on a pair. When the turn came out 9c, it became evident that Loosli was on his last straw. The Ad then appeared on the river, giving Riess the pot and more importantly, sending Loosli home packing in 4th place.

Still, it was a good day for the Frenchman, who ended his WSOP 2013 Main Event with $2,792,533 to his name.
