Revenues for online were $4.6million for the three month period, up from $1.6m the year before and the first time that a direct comparison could be made. The group as a whole had revenues of $901.2m, up from $894.4m the year previous. It wasn’t all plain sailing though. Lotteries saw a drop from $442.6m last year to $440.8m this year and there were only modest increases in casinos, video lotteries and bingo.

Australian sports betting provider CentreBet has signed an extension to its deal with National Rugby League (NRL) team North Queensland Cowboys. For the 2012 season the firm will sponsors the team’s Spirit cheer squad as well as the Cowboys Golf Day later in the season. Steven Hannan, marketing manager, commented: “Centrebet is proud to be a partner that helps bring the excitement to life. The Cowboys are an essential partner in our business and we are looking forward to bringing on new programmes in 2012 to make the Cowboys’ games even more exciting for fans.”

Steve Mitchell, general manager for the Cowboys, added: “It has been a great partner for the past three seasons and we’re looking forward to developing our relationship even further at this higher level.”

UK’s Gambling Commission has appointed three new specialists to help bolster relations with regulators and law enforcement agencies. Detective Constable Mark Stanford joins on a two-year secondment from the Metropolitan Police, and Charlotte Meller, a specialist in shared regulation, to establish the Local Authority Liaison Unit. This is in addition to Andrew Chapple, former executive at William Hill and the Tote, joining to help with a number of schemes including the Commission’s money laundering compliance scheme.
