Haye v Klitschko set a date

Wladimir Klitschko and David Haye

Wladimir Klitschko and David HayeAs the boxing world waits for THE fight that everyone in the world wants to see, the second in the pecking order has today been confirmed. Wladimir Klitschko’s management told the media that a fight between their client and British Heavyweight David Haye has now been confirmed for later this year.

The bout will take place in the German city of Hamburg on the 2nd of July and will finally give us a fight that has been two years in the making. The negotiations have been far from amicable with each being accused of ducking the fight much like Floyd Mayweather has been accused in the same way in his fight to avoid Manny Pacquiao.

The 57,000-capacity Imtech Arena will be the venue and with over two months left until the two men square off in the ring there’s plenty of time for the trademark trash talking to ramp up between the two. Haye is known for this and once even wore a T-shirt where a mock-up had been made of him carrying the heads of the two brothers.

As far as the betting is concerned it will be sodding hard to separate the two fighters down to the fact that Klitschko can probably take a lot more punches than any of Haye’s last few opponents. It’s not like he’s going to let himself come out of it looking like Antonio Margarito or anything. He can take a lot though.

You can already get Haye at 6/4 with bet365 whereas Klitschko is at 8/15 with the same bookie. Haye has been in this position before fighting on foreign soil and is attractive at as much as 8/5 with Bodog. You just wait until the trash talking starts though. Expect the odds to change just a little bit if Haye is successful in riling the rangy Ukrainian.
