WPT follows WSOP-C lead, launches circuits in America, Europe

wpt-launches-circuitsInspired, perhaps, by the demonstrable success of the World Series of Poker Circuit’s off-season reinvention, the World Poker Tour has decided to launch a pair of WPT-branded circuits. These circuits will cater to players who wish to experience the thrill of a WPT event without having to pony up the usual $10k buy-in.

The US-focused WPT Regional Series will get underway November 19-22 with the $5k buy-in Seminole Hard Rock Fall Poker Open in Hollywood, Florida. The $1500 buy-in Hollywood Fall Classic at the Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana will take place Nov. 20-21.

The European-focused circuit, the WPT National Series, has only one event listed so far, the €5k buy-in EFOP Diamond Championship at the Aviation Club de France in Paris, in February 2011.

Depending how these events pan out, other dates and places may be forthcoming, but none of these circuit stops will contribute points towards the WPT’s Player of the Year competition, earn WPT bracelets or guarantee entry into the WPT Championship. Nevertheless, the money in the prize pool will still be accepted at any financial institution, so really… Who cares about the rest?
