After a midweek break for the Carling Cup, it’s back to Premier League action this weekend and there’s a couple of the country’s more fierce derbies on Sunday afternoon. First up comes the second city derby as Birmingham City travel to Aston Villa in what has become quite the competitive match-up over recent years. It will be Gerard Houllier’s first taste of a game between the two sides, however, during his time at Liverpool he had more than his fair share of derbies.
Sunday’s other derby match has been in the making for the past season or so after Newcastle dropped down a division for a season. This season it so far looks as though Mike Ashley is attempting to re-create his favourite film of all time, Mean Machine, the amount of convicts growing in recent times. Joey Barton even gave us a demonstration of how to tackle as part of this team on Wednesday night. That or he really likes yellow. You decide.
Their opponents are the Steve Bruce managed Sunderland who simply don’t concede right now. Bruce’s men might not be the most attractive of sides but they’re getting results right now so what’s not to like? Derby games are always a lottery though.
