The charges stem from allegations that Wright does not actually live in the district he represents. While Wright does own an apartment complex in Inglewood, which is part of the 25th Sentate District, his accusers claim he actually lives in a home located outside the district in Baldwin Hills. As a result, Wright has been charged with five counts of voter fraud, one count of filing a false declaration of candidacy and two counts of perjury.
His lawyers claims that Wright (who has pleaded ‘not guilty’) has observed ‘the letter of the law’ and that past precedent will ensure his vindication. Given how great a champion Wright has been for gambling in the past, one hates to envision a future minus such a staunch advocate. Free the Inglewood One!
