But now, Espn has reported that Johnny Damon has been picked up off waivers by the Boston Red Sox. It’s no secret the Red Sox have been ravaged by injuries and with outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Cameron on the disabled list, the Red Sox need a serviceable outfielder. Damon fits that description, but still, it’s a little puzzling why the Red Sox would go after Damon, it’s not like he left on good terms.
Speculation by many baseball analysts is that the Red Sox may have picked up Damon to prevent other teams like the Rays, who are in need of an outfielder, from acquiring Damon. Either way, Damon has until Wednesday to decide on whether he will waive his no trade clause and return to Boston, where he and the rest of his “idiots” helped break the 86 year old curse, by bringing a World Series title the Fenway faithful.
What are the odds that Damon returns to Boston? The Red Sox are barely hanging in the race for the Wild Card and their injury problems don’t exactly make them the most attractive place for Damon to go. Then again, they have more of a chance than his current team, the Tigers who completely fallen out of contention. Will Damon, Boston’s prodigal son return home? Got your props up?
