Since Zinedine Zidane departed world soccer in perhaps the most appropriate circumstances, it’s taught people to never doubt the power of world sport to shock and amaze in equal measure. So the fact that Muttiah Muralitharan achieved his 800th wicket on the last day of his last test shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Oh and it was his last ever ball in test cricket, to end a remarkable career which took in a World Cup victory for his native Sri Lanka, to go with the amazing feat of 16 wickets in a match against England.
