Online poker may be going pear-shaped everywhere else on the planet but in France it is doing très bien, merci. To try and sweeten the bitter pill of its own grim poker predictions PartyGaming claimed as much yesterday and online and land gambling group Pari-Mutuel Urbain (PMU) has followed suit. But even before this month’s legalisation of poker, things were looking pretty incroyable, as it has just reported a 400% growth in sign-ups at its pmu.fr website since May alone. Then again, this may have something to do with the fact that PMU already had a license to offer sports betting before the liberalisation of the French market, not to mention the help of Paddy Power, Orbis and PartyGaming.
