You can always rely on ITV to fuck up your football viewing. Having low-grade pundits is one thing, cutting into the actual football coverage with adverts is quite another. It’s not on. Especially not when they pulled a similar trick last season when Everton scored right at the end of a crucial FA Cup tie against Liverpool – only viewers were none the wiser until they were showed images of Dan Gosling wheeling away in celebration after scoring a dramatic extra-time winner. This time those punters that paid extra for the privilege of ITV HD, got to miss England’s first goal of the World Cup finals as – yet again – the powers that be decided it would b a good idea to show a car advert instead.
