Senator Harry Reid has scotched rumours that he will introduce an online gambling bill into Congress within the next three months. “Rumours of a forthcoming bill are greatly exaggerated,” fudged Reid spokesperson, Jon Summers. On the face of it this is a heavy blow for the pro-gambling lobby, but of course neither has Reid’s office denied that it will introduce the bill. It’s a classic case of a politician hedging his bets. This piece suggests that the bill is being seriously considered and of course these politicians daren’t move too quickly for fear of getting splinters in their arse from sitting on the fence for so long.
