In Canada, the night before the NHL playoffs commence is known as Playoff Eve. Children of all ages will gather around a pot-bellied stove and listen to old-timers reminisce about the exploits of Rocket Richard and Mark Messier, old VHS videos of Peter Puck are hauled out, and… Oh fuck, who are we kidding? At best, everybody cracks a beer, sings a few bars of “It’s the most wonderful time of the year” then places a wager on who’ll hoist Lord Stanley’s Cup come June. This year, the smart money (or herd mentality, depending on your loyalties and how many of those beers you’ve had) says it’ll be the Caps, but feel free to voice an alternate opinion. Read more.
