Despite a long and storied tradition of service in the British army, Gurkha soldiers have faced all manner of discriminatory behavior. So when the men of one Gurkha unit were ordered not to visit local betting shops (a ban not imposed on non-Gurkha units), six Gurkhas essentially said ‘on your bike’ and placed bets like any other soldier. The six were then arrested and told they faced sentences of up to two years.
