Utah would rather seize federal land than allow gambling

BigUtahLoveSuffice to say, the state of Utah feels it ain’t getting any Big Love from the federal government. More than 60% of state land is owned by the feds, and legislators protest that this prevents it from raising enough taxes to fund its overcrowded schools. Democrats have suggested starting a revenue-generating lottery, but the Mormon-heavy state ain’t having that. Instead, Utah plans to use the principle of eminent domain to seize federal land, then spend up to $3M to fight the feds in court, despite the fact that the state’s own lawyers feel they haven’t got a prayer.
