Native American Indians play racist card in casino spat

Yesterday we reported on the conflicting interests of two native American Indian tribes and their mixed attitude towards the potential regulation and legalization of online gambling in California.

But it seems that ill-feeling between Californian tribes does not stop there. Elsewhere in the state, there have been calls for Greg Sarris, the chairman of the Federated Indians of the Graton Rancheria, to be de-certified for not having native Indian blood. In other words the Indians are calling the chief a cowboy.

At the centre of it all, of course, is yet another casino spat but it’s a bit of a shame that these tribes of all people should resort to racism to try and get their way. Read more.
