This article by Time’s Jeffrey Kluger takes a more philosophical view of the results of a recent study, which has concluded that the more hands you win in poker, the more money you’re likely to lose.

“People overweigh their frequent small gains vis-à-vis occasional large losses,” says doctoral student Kyle Siler of Cornell University.

But it’s a metaphor for life. ‘Unlike the risks at the poker table, where your losses are just yours, in the larger world, you can take down a lot of other people with you,’ writes Kluger. Read more.
