Nevada senator Berkley likes online gaming

Berkley likes online gaming, Gambling newsWell, she likes online gaming regulation.

Tony Batt, contributing writer for gamblingcompliance.com, reports that Nevada Rep. Shelley Berkley, who was once an opponent of internet gambling, is a co-sponsor of a bill by Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., that would legalize internet gambling and require the Department of Treasury to regulate online betting. “I’m not going to say internet gambling is the wave of the future because I think its future actually is now,” Berkley said. “Internet gambling is not taking customers away from brick and mortar properties. It is giving brick and mortar properties access to new players.”

“People are getting ripped off every day because these websites are not regulated,” she said. “ If the major players like Harrah’s and MGM Mirage got into the business, they would have the ability to offer legitimate games and keep problem gamblers and underage gamblers off their web sites.”

Seems a bit extreme to say every day people are getting ripped off because my biggest campaign supporters (Las Vegas casinos) have to sit on the sidelines, but at least she’s on the right track.
