But seriously, just how much do they like American Football across the pond?

Let’s flip the script. Just how much do they like soccer, er “football” in America?

I am a huge fan of both games and it’s always interesting to contrast both games.

Truth be told, most Americans don’t understand the game of soccer, not even close. They can’t stand the diving, they don’t understand the rules, they don’t know why more goals aren’t scored with such a big net and a comparatively small ball, there’s too much passing and not enough shooting. Many American’s just don’t understand the game. And in true American fashion, anything they don’t understand, they generally don’t like/support.

Add to the mix the fact that a majority of the best athletes in America are ushered towards one of the major professional sports (NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL) that’s where the money is; and what you have is the great game of soccer being played by the country’s lesser athletes.

We saw Ochocinco try his luck at the beautiful game during the NFL Lockout, but imagine if LeBron James played soccer?

It’s quite the opposite across the pond, where the best of the best athletes play soccer.

Soccer is also a game of pure finesse, where wit, skill and creativity can outmatch speed and strength, again a stark contrast from American Football, which is more akin to a military endeavor. By that I mean, football is all about gaining ground, it is a systematic march forward towards the goal and you never go backwards to find another route forward. If something is in your way, you must go through it.

Sure there’s strategy, but most of that comes from the press box and the sidelines. But as players, one can be as creative, intelligent and clever as you want on the grid-iron, but ultimately, that won’t stop a 250 plus pound monster- man who can run like the wind, bench press a Buick and is generally angry 20 out the 24 hrs in the day, from body slamming you into the turf. Truly America’s game.

All that said, the NFL still has hope that American Football will continue to rise in popularity in England.

We polled our readers the question “What would you name a London NFL Team?” Here are the results.

31 percent said they would call the team the Royals.

20 percent said they would call the team the Monarchs.

20 percent also felt Beefeaters would be a suitable name.

14 percent were keen on calling them the Geezers, which is a terrible name for a football team, while 13 percent chose name Limeys.

Some lone soul picked “Capitals” as a suitable name, he’s probably the same person who actually enjoyed Kevin Kosner’s WaterWorld.

So many restaurants and even fast food joints are now moving towards a healthier menu as part of the movement towards healthier living, but don’t add the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas to that list.

Customers who show up to the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas weighing in at over 350 pounds get to eat for free. Not that they need any more free meals, but you can see the direction the Heart Attack Grill is trying to take it.

NBC’s George Lewis reports that quite simply, the eatery specializes in food that’s bad for you, including a so-called “quadruple bypass burger.”

If the name wasn’t obvious enough, the Heart Attack Grill also has a hospital theme inside the restaurant, servers dressed like nurses and it even has an ambulance parked out front- only in Vegas.

If you want to go ahead and eat 8000 calories in a single sitting, the Heart Attack Grill is the place to be.

But isn’t that dangerous? Considering close to 10,000 calories is what most people take in a week- isn’t the Heart Attack Grill a little like a bartender that keeps feeding you shots after you’re way past your limit?

If you’re thinking along those lines, you’re not alone, owner Jon Basso had similar restaurants in the Dallas and Phoenix area but closed them in the face of protests and community pressure.

Worse yet, a 575-pound spokesperson for one of his previous restaurants, died in March of obesity-related illness. I guess he was getting high on his own supply.

I’m all for a restaurant that brings you to the brink of a heart attack, it should be up to the individual to make their own healthy food choices. Some of us like a little hard living.

Let’s hope they at least make people sign a waiver before entering the joint. Something along the lines of “Warning: food may shorten lifespan..significantly,” should suffice.

Although a Nov. 2 hearing will determine if she goes to jail, but Lohan has since reportedly paid $100,000 to post bail and has since been released. $100K- you know that hurt- That’s a lot of nose candy.

There was one small moment when those who were pulling for LiLo to turn her spiralling life around, if for no other reason, than so we can see that killer body back in shape and back in sexy magazine poses and cameos. That didn’t happen.

In fact, as Fox News reports, Lohan hasn’t exactly been compliant with her previous sentencing. According to Fox News, Lohan was sentenced to 360 hours of community service over the course of a year and, after six months, LiLo has managed to complete a whopping hour and a half of community service.

The judicial system seems to almost be a wits end with Lohan. During Wednesday’s hearing, Judge Stephanie Sautner said, “If jail meant something in the state of California now, maybe I’d put her in jail.”

Lohan just needs something a little more constructive to do with her time. At this point, porn sounds like a logical career path. No?

Just because you play a mobster on TV, doesn’t mean you can actually be one in real life. Furthermore, it’s puzzling to me that after the plethora of mobbed up TV series out there, the tactic of the Feds, including wire taps and surveillance operations are somehow still highly effective.

The Feds finally brought down what is being described as a 37-man gambling ring. “Operation Flat Rate” as the Feds call it, used long-term surveillance and numerous wiretaps to bring down the multi-million dollar mob operation.

“These arrests cripple a network of criminal enterprises and the organized crime family they supported,” said Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. – NY Daily News.

According to the charges in the court papers, actor John Marinacci was charged with enterprise corruption for taking bets and collecting money for “the Gambino Bookmaking Enterprise.”

According to the indictments, the alleged illegal gambling activity involved two sports gambling operations in which bettors could call an off-shore site or use Web sites to place wagers, or play a numbers game where the action was on lottery numbers.

While the Feds may take a small victory in having brought down one more unauthorized gambling operation, there’s simply another one waiting to rise up.

And while the Feds can continue to use resources to bring them down time and again, it is but a band-aid solution to a bullet wound. That is to say, there wouldn’t be illegal gambling rings if there was proper and efficient online gambling legislation to begin with, and that’s just stating the blatantly obvious.

Like something out of a crazy movie, dozens of exotic and highly dangerous animals were mistreated and then set loose on an unsuspecting town by a suicidal owner of an exotic animal farm in Zanesville Ohio. ABC News reported that Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said that when his men arrived at the animal preserve in Zanesville, they found grizzly bears, lions, Bengal tigers, black bears and leopards roaming the area.

Lutz said the Sheriff’s dept had been aware of animal farm for several years, and that it “has been a huge problem.” – ABC News.

According to ABC News and the sherriff’s report, the animals were kept in cages that looked similar to a giant “wire dog pen” in conditions that were described as “abominable.”

The wild animals terrorized the town sending fear through the hearts of the residents. From all accounts it was complete madness, the sherriff told ABC that his deputies had to kill animals at close range with their sidearms. “These are 300 pound Bengal tigers that we had to put down…”

ABC News reports that the animals’ cages were opened up by Terry Thompson, who owned the animal preserve in Zanesville. Thompson killed himself after freeing his menagerie, Lutz said.

Worse yet, Thompson himself was an unfit owner to begin with. Prior to his death, Thompson was recently released from prison after serving one year on federal weapons charges and according to investigators, he has been cited in the past for animal abuse and neglect.

So the question is, how is a man like this allowed to keep some of the most dangerous animals on the planet in his possession?

For all animal lovers and for those who appreciate the beauty of exotic animals this is more than a horror story, it’s a damn shame.

President of Dover Downs, Ed Sutor: “If you talk to anybody about conservation efforts, of course there’s a component of doing the right thing, good corporate citizen, but I’d be lying if I told you there wasn’t an economic development too,” – Newsworks.

The move to go green, according to Sutor, was due to high landfill tipping fees which led him to look into cost-saving measures and composting serves to save the casino more than $2,000 in tipping fees.

“The biggest component of our trash is the weight of food…So it worked out for both sides. We have less tonnage, it’s saving us money, and it goes to composting, which is going to be recycled into the environment.”- Newsworks.

Waste Management, an investor in the organic recycling center, will now transport the nearly 50 tons of Dover Downs food waste to The Peninsula Compost Group in Wilmington.

Dover Down didn’t just stop at composting, rather the casino has gone fully green by taking other steps towards energy efficiency, including the installation of 26-thousand energy saving light bulbs, water saving faucets and toilets. Additionally, all styrofoam containers have been replaced with eco-friendly ones and Dover Downs is now even using “green” chemicals for cleaning.

Dover Downs has certainly upped the green ante on the East Coast and while the move benefits the environment, it’s helping the casino too.

According to Sutor: “In these tough times, you have to do whatever you can to save money. And fortunately if you’re paying attention to your recycling and other environmental things — cutting back on electric usage, gas usage — all that’s environmentally good, but also saves the company money,”- Newsworks.

According to the Czech Position, the police anticorruption unit launched an investigation several days ago into allegations that Penta co-founder Marek Dospiva paid millions of crowns to Finance Minister Miroslav Kalousek to grant Czech companies permission to provide odds betting services over the Internet. The equity group’s assets include the bookmaker Fortuna, which had been trying in vain for a license to offer services online.

Just under three years ago, Kalousek issued 10-year licenses for Fortuna (owned by Penta), Sazka, Synot Tip, Tipsport and Chance to offer online odds betting. The move was wholly justified by Kalousek who made the obvious and true argument that because the Czech state had no powers to control or tax gaming companies which are registered in other EU countries; foreign firms were already offering odds betting over the Internet to Czech customers which was putting Czech firms at a disadvantage.

The Czech police have decided to launch a full investigation: “We are verifying allegations of the crime of abuse of office by a public official, acceptance of a bribe and also offering a bribe,” anticorruption unit head Tomáš Martinec told the daily Právo, adding that criminal proceedings have been launched.

According to the Czech daily Právo, both Kalousek and Dospiva have categorically denied the allegations.

After Raiders QB Jason Campbell suffered a collarbone injury which will put him on the sidelines for the immediate future, a window of opportunity opened for Carson Palmer. Before the season began, Palmer had given the Bengals an ultimatum, “trade me or I’ll retire,” the Bengals called his bluff and though Palmer didn’t formally retire, he refused to be a part of the team in any capacity.

With the Raiders needing a QB, the Bengals have struck a deal that will send Palmer to Oakland in exchange for a 2012 first-round draft pick and a conditional 2013 pick, contingent on Palmer passing a physical.

The Bengals seemed content to keep Palmer on the shelf but the package the Raiders put together was too good to pass up.

In the wake of the death of Raiders legend Al Davis, the Raiders carried their late owner’s motto of “Just win baby” and have won two straight and are currently 4-2 on the year. The loss of Campbell put the Raiders in a desperate situation considering their back-up QB’s consist of Kyle Boller, who hasn’t started since 2009, and rookie Terrelle Pryor who simply isn’t ready.

Oakland will reportedly absorb all of Palmer’s remaining $11.5 million salary for 2011, but Palmer might have to find himself wearing the silver and black for the long haul. Campbell will be a free agent after the 2011 season, so if Palmer can step in and make an impact, considering what the Raiders have given up to get him, it’s highly possible that Campbell will be wearing a different uniform next season.

The two pennant races were characterized by high scoring and solid bullpen performances. Tony La Russa, who has often been criticized for over-managing, truly deserves an award for the managing job he has done in the last two months to get his team to this point.

La Russa leaned heavily on his bullpen which performed admirably in the NLCS, but if the Cardinals hope to be successful against the Rangers and their powerhouse lineup, the starting pitch will have to be much better than it was against the Brewers.

The 2011 World Series offers a plethora of betting options and props for North American facing sportsbooks to offer.

A couple of players head into the World Series on fire. Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers had a record setting ALCS and became the first player to hit six home-runs and 13 RBIs in a postseason series. He had eight hits in the ALCS, all of which were extra-base hits.
For the Cardinals, David Freese had ice in his veins. In a breakout NLCS performance, Freese hit .545 (12 for 22) with three homers, nine RBIs and seven runs scored over the course of six games.

The 2011 World Series begins on Wednesday, and the Rangers will send their struggling ace C.J. Wilson to the mound. Wilson hasn’t been as sharp as he was last year, and will start Wednesday’s game having lost his last two starts with an ERA of 8.04 ERA in his three starts this postseason.

The Cardinals will send their ace Chris Carpenter to the hill, Carpenter has been lights out in the postseason, and the Cardinals will need him to be at the top of his game to quiet the loud bats of the Texas Rangers.

With Atlantic City’s 11 casinos coming within just 0.6% of arresting their decline, the future isn’t looking as gloomy and newly elected Atlantic City Alliance CEO Elizabeth Cartmell plans to keep it that way.

During her first public appearance yesterday, Cartmell made it clear that she wants to restore the prestige of Atlantic City. With her roots in New Jersey, Cartmell believes strongly that the resorts’ beaches, Boardwalk, cultures, traditions, food and “world-class” hotels and resorts far exceed the portrayals of HBO’s show Boardwalk Empire.

With that in mind, Cartmell has been touted as exactly the breath of fresh air that Atlantic City needs to return the former gambling mecca to prominence.

It won’t be an easy task, but restoring the glitz, glamour and excitement to Atlantic City is definitely a start.

Cartmell said she will first focus on increasing marketing and public relations and then on increasing business travel and building up a calendar of events and activities that draw people to Atlantic City, all in an effort to put the resort back on a footing similar to other popular gaming and tourism destinations.

Cartmell certainly has the right idea in wanting to add the excitement back to the resort, according to Cartmell, “If we want to succeed here, every day has to be New Year’s.” – Pressofatlanticcity.

Controversial outcomes and a lack of high appeal marquee fights between top contenders, mainly Pac-Man and Mayweather, and a boring heavyweight division has made many fans frustrated with the once premier combat sport of boxing.

We polled our viewers to gauge the “Combat Sports they most enjoy watching,” here are the results.

In the minds of 39 percent of our viewers, boxing is still the combat sport of choice.

27 percent responded that the combat sport they most enjoy watching was mixed martial arts.

The pacifists also weighed in with 22 percent saying they don’t enjoy either.

12 percent haven’t chosen a side just yet, and enjoyed watching both boxing and mixed martial arts equally.

One’s preference can vary depending on their age. For those old enough to have watched the golden ages of boxing with the likes of Ali, Fraser, Hollyfield, Sugar Ray Leonard, De La Hoya, Tyson and the like, boxing will always hold a special place in your heart.

But it’s undeniable that MMA is the new kid on the block that kicks, grapples and uses submission moves.

There’s plenty of gamblers that bet on college football that are smelling a rat with the South Carolina Gamecocks.
So far this season, South Carolina has seen noticeable line-movement in two games (East Carolina, Navy), minor movement in two (Auburn, Kentucky) and no movement in the remaining games (Vanderbilt, Georgia).

Much of the buzz is focussed around the play of South Carolina’s QB Stephen Garcia, or should I say, his questionable play. While there are those bitter gamblers out there that will yell out “fixed” every-time the line jumps, or a good player doesn’t play up to expectations against a poor team, online sportsbooks haven’t noticed anything too abnormal about the betting activity surrounding the Gamecocks.

The buzz around fixed games is nothing new across the pond when it comes to the “World’s” game. But fixed college football or fixed games in any of the major professional sports in North America is a huge deal if found out.

There’s a reason the NBA and the angel of Stern were quick to shut down the first publisher of Tim Donaghy’s tell all book. The NBA, like the NFL, like college football needs to have its fans and bettors believe that the games are one hundred percent legitimate, one hundred percent of the time. The facts are, it’s just not true.

According to Pregame, more than one-third of college athletes admitted in a survey to violating NCAA rules by gambling on either college or professional sport and 2.3 percent of NCAA Division I football players actually admitted they’d been asked at some point to influence the outcome of a game because of gambling debts.

If that’s the information coming out voluntarily, what else is going on behind the scenes?

With players and the league so far apart on a number of key issues and negotiation points, it wasn’t surprising to hear David Stern announce that the first two weeks of the 2011 NBA season had been cancelled.

Heading into this work stoppage, we knew it was going to be long and ugly, the scary part at this point is that the regular season has already been shortened and talks haven’t quite reached the ugly zone yet.

The players are sticking to their guns and the owners feel they can’t back down on some of theirs for the good of the league and as David Stern has explained, some owners are actually losing money.

For the second time in 13 years, the NBA will have a shortened season. That is, if they have one at all. The last time the league lost games to a work stoppage was in the 1998-99 season, which was reduced to 50 games. The San Antonio Spurs won the NBA Championship that year in what many believe should have been an asterix season.

Now the clock is ticking and the meter is running, for many teams, refunds plus interest are available for NBA season ticket holders for all preseason and regular season games that have been cancelled.

As for the players, the clock is ticking on their money too, November is when the paychecks are supposed to start rolling in, but with no games being played, some players are going to start feeling the heat.

Kobe Bryant won’t be one of them, but he probably won’t like missing out on receiving almost 2 million every two weeks.

Worse yet, for the gaming industry, it’s now a pre-season and two weeks of the regular season that won’t be hitting the books.

Epstein was credited as the brain child behind the rebuilding of a Red Sox team once believed to be cursed by the Bambino. If breaking curses is what Epstein does, it’s fitting then for him to be headed to the Chicago Cubs.

It was clearly time for Epstein to make a move. Something had changed in Boston. The Red Sox had arguably the most talented team on paper and yet still managed to suffer one of the most monumental late season collapses in baseball history.

If Epstein thought breaking the 86 year curse of the Bambino was difficult, he’s in for a real treat at Wrigley Field. Not only have the Cubs not won a World Series in over a hundred years (1908), but last year’s team was horrific. This past season, the Cubs had almost every problem imaginable from poor chemistry to overpaid no-shows, that’s how the team with the sixth highest payroll in the MLB at $125,047,329 managed to lose 92 games.

According to several publications, the deal that will see Theo Epstein as the new general manager of the Chicago Cub is expected to be completed by next week, with Epstein expected to make somewhere in the ball park of between15 to 18 million over three years.

Make a move toy cop!

Atlantic City needs safety concerns surrounding their casinos like they need faulty slot machines. Unfortunately for the former gambling mecca, regulators have been forced to consider changing state law to allow casinos to use armed security guards in the wake of a fatal carjacking that began in a Taj Mahal parking garage.

As it stands right now, the NJ Casino Act prohibits guns anywhere on the casino premises and casinos only employ unarmed security. However, following a request from Trump Entertainment, the Division of Gaming Enforcement must decide whether to move or to allow armed security guards.

In Las Vegas, many casinos that once used armed security guards have moved to unarmed ones. Obviously, the last thing any casino operator needs are gunshots in their casino from some hot-headed and trigger happy security guard. Then again, when there’s a car-jacking going down or other dangerous criminal activity, there’s not a lot a security guard with a flash-light can do to deter it.

Even though safety is a concern, the Pressofatlanticcity reported that some local industry officials said they would not support allowing armed security guards.

Revel Entertainment Group CEO Kevin DeSanctis said: “When you start talking about carrying weapons, I think that’s much better left in the hands of police…the most important thing with security is presence of people who look like they have some kind of official capacity. I’d be much more in favor of having a few more people out there walking around. ” – Pressofatlanticcity.

What about the impression of the customers? That’s the real question. It’s a matter of whether patrons would feel comfortable with security guards packing heat. Of course, there those who wouldn’t mind it, but certainly there are those who might be apprehensive.

The problem for Atlantic City is that many casinos literally can’t afford to push anyone away for any reason, let alone safety concerns.

Perhaps one of the most special things about Detroit is the Detroit Booty Lounge. The mobile entertainment booty bus has been a staple in the Detroit tailgating scene for the past six years. For those who haven’t heard of the Booty Lounge, it’s a party bus that for years was operating as a strip club for Lions fans at a popular tailgating spot in Detroit.

A $10 fee gets you on the booty bus and once on the Booty Lounge bus, patrons would be treated to entertainment in the form of lap-dances and booze, drinking and carrying on, the perfect pre-game festivity. But it seems the booty bus is about to get the boot.

According to the Detroit News, Police Sgt. Charles Spruce said Monday about the bus entertainment: “If they’re in there and they have semi-dressed girls, or they’re in there dancing nude or whatever, that’s a violation. If we find illegal activities on the bus, we will confiscate the bus, and we will give the property owner, because he does possess a liquor license, a Michigan liquor license violation. The people on the bus will receive another kind of violation.”

Just when the city takes a few steps forward, the fun police have to step in pull them by their g-strings and halter tops a few steps back. That’s a shame.

Believe it or not, a man that goes by the name Phoenix Jones, born Benjamin John Francis Fodor, is the leader of real-life ten member “superhero” group known as the Rain City Superhero movement, based in Seattle, Washington.

So for the guys out there who have a super-heroine fetish, your dreams can come true in streets of Seattle. Well, kind of.

Phoenix Jones and his crew routinely take to the Seattle streets at night dressed in superhero costumes and attempt to stop crime.
According to a local KIRO News report, it seems that while attempting to fight crime, Phoenix Jones himself became the criminal.
Jones was recently released from jail after being accused of pepper-spraying a group of people who he claims were fighting.

According the KIRO news report, Seattle police said they responded Sunday to reports of an assault where they arrested a man they said was Jones.

Jones has since given his own version of the incident in a Facebook post saying he “witnessed a hit-and-run/attempted murder of a man and he responded to stop it.”

There is video footage of the incident which shows Jones and his sidekick, known as Ghost, running toward a group of people. Jones alleges there was a fight in the group. Police said there’s no indication there was a fight.

Jones told KIRO FM’s Ron and Don Show that police took his suit, boots and mask. Jones says that he hasn’t had problems with the Seattle police department, which isn’t exactly accurate. In 2011, Jones had his nose broken by an assailant while attempting to break up a fight. One of the men pulled a gun on Jones while another one kicked him, breaking his nose. Seattle police made a statement that the incident confirms their fears that these real-life super heroes are unqualified civilians who interfere with law enforcement and put themselves at risk.

Does the world need “superheroes” like Phoenix Jones? It’s one thing to take the law into your own hands, but is it a different matter altogether to pledge to uphold the law like a superhero?

My opinion, anyone who walks around in a bullet proof superhero costume with a canister of pepper spray is probably more of a danger to himself and others. Jones is little more than a reality television series waiting to happen.

The channel was to provide bookmakers in the UK and Ireland with enhanced betting opportunities alongside the company’s FACTS racing service.

Now, Satellite Information Services (SIS) has appointed Jack Davison as director of Sports Data, completing a new department within SIS which will focus on building a new data brand and products for its customers.

Davison joins head of business Dominic Atkinson and Kevin Pick, head of product as part of the new unit.

Davison’s experience covers licensing content, particularly data, across the digital, broadcast and betting sectors, as well as rights acquisition working closely with sports governing bodies. Davison joins the SIS unit after time with the Press Association, where he spent nine years in a variety of commercial roles, before becoming commercial director of the sports division.

Following his appointment Davison said in a news release: “I’m excited about starting at SIS…I see my role as running a relatively new area for SIS, enabling me to try and shape it how I see it, while at the same time widening SIS’s product offering with an aim to increase revenue, our customer base and our strategic position in the wider betting market.”

Davison will report to Philip Siers, MD of the company’s LBO division as the new SIS department will focus on commercialising football, racing and other sports data and associated content.
