Chat with Tats - Matt Salsberg

In this episode of Chats with Tats, poker pro, writer and Team GFY founder Matt Salsberg tells CalvinAyre.com’s Tatjana Pasalic on how he is taking a step back from playing to focus more on his writing career.

Playing poker can be fun and fulfilling, but let’s be honest, it can also wear down the players. Poker pro Matt Salsberg knows firsthand how his profession has its wear and tear.

“I love poker, but when it’s strictly like, when you’re on the road 11 months out of the year or whatever, it’s really exhausting,” Salsberg told CalvinAyre.com.

After he was named Global Poker Index Player of the Year in 2013, Salsberg said he started feeling the effects of being the road all the time.

“When I had the Player of the Year run, that sort of motivated me to be on the road… I enjoyed the perks of it, but at the same time, it’s sort of, I’m not that young so being on the road is a little exhausting. It’s fun as a hobby poker, but as a profession, it has its wear and tear,” he explained.

Now, Salsberg is taking a step back from the felt table to focus more on his writing career in Los Angeles.

“[I’m] working on a bunch of different projects in LA, writing pilots, developing some projects. [There are] a couple of things that I’m overseeing, a couple of things I am writing myself, [and] collaborating with some people,” the pro player said.

Salsberg also found time to start a new project: founding the Team GFY.

“Basically, we promote self-gratification, pleasuring ourselves, that kind of stuff. This is about us. It is about being true to yourself you know, and being OK with yourself,” he said.
