George Danzer has defeated Scott Clements in heads-up action in the World Series of Poker Asia Pacific Event #8: AU$5,000 8-Game Mixed, and takes a significant lead over Brandon Shack-Harris in the Player of the Year race.

George Danzer has won his third World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet of 2014 and put some distance between himself and Brandon Shack-Harris in the 2014 WSOP Player of the Year (POY) race.

Danzer picked up his third bracelet of 2014 after defeating 48-players in the AU$5,000 8-Game Mixed event, and at the same time saw his live tournament career earnings eclipse the $2 million mark.

It’s Danzer’s third cash of the WSOP-APAC series and it was his second final table, after finishing sixth in the $1,650 8-Game Dealers Choice event just a few short days ago. Danzer wasn’t the only player to make the final table of both 8-Game events. Sam Khouiss, who finished runner-up to Rory Young in the lower buy-in event, finishing sixth in the bigger buy-in event.

Danzer’s victory is the first for a European in 2014. The German cashed seven times in the summer, made three final tables, and converted two of those into gold.

Richard “Chufty” Ashby, who also excelled in the summer, was leading the final 26 players after Day 1 but failed to cash. Brian Rast also went deep but finished on the money bubble.

The leader going into the final table was Scott Clements. The American won consecutive bracelets in 2006 & 2007 but has since had the misfortunate to finish second on three different occasions, before making that a harrowing fourth against Danzer.

The former WSOP Main Event Champion Jonathan Duhamel once again showed that his mixed game is becoming a game for anyone with his second final table appearance in the past few days, and what about Ismael Bojang. Has there been a more consistent performer than this man? Bojang climbed to number five in the WSOP POY leaderboard after reaching his second final table and third cash of the series.
