A few months after PartyPoker made the groundbreaking move of having its online gambling site in New Jersey strike a sponsorship deal with the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL’s New Jersey Devils, the World Series of Poker’s online poker room in New Jersey has followed suit with a sponsorship deal of its own with another NHL team.

As it turns out, the WSOP has just become the new – and official – gaming partner of none other than the New York Rangers. Does that mean we’re going to see Rick Nash and Henrik Lundqvist play on the site? Unlikely, but not too far-fetched.

The scope of the partnership between the WSOP and the Rangers apparently involves cross-promotion more than anything else. According to Poker News, eligible players from WSOP.com who live in the Garden State are eligible for these promotions, with the first one already up on WSOP’s website. If you’re a player of the site, any deposit you make using a given promotional code automatically gives you a chance to win a number of cool prizes, including a former New York Ranger great knocking on your very own front door to pay you a visit. Mark Messier, is that you?

On top of that, other winners are also entitled to as much as $15,000 in additional prizes, autographed Rangers gear, and tickets to a number of the team’s home games at Madison Square Garden in New York.
