WSOP 2013 Main Event Final Table: Marc-Etienne McLaughlin finishes at 6th place

wsop-november-nine-marc-mclaughlin-interview-tp-videoAfter three bust outs occurred in the first 55 hands of the WSOP 2013 Main Event Final Table, action took a predictable turn towards slowing down. It took 102 more hands, but at Hand 157, the fourth member of the November Nine has finally hit the rails.

Marc-Etienne McLaughlin spent a lot of time as one of the short stacks in the Final Table, but a recent run of pots elevated him to as high as third with 37 million in chips. Unfortunately for McLaughlin, he decided to make a run at a pot against  Jay Farber, who had more chips at his disposal.

At the start of the hand, McLaughlin raised to 1.6 million from the hijack seat only to see Farber, from the dealer seat, re-up his raise to 3.8 million. The rest of the table decided that the best course of action was to sit out this hand, but McLaughlin was undaunted. He fired back with his own reraise to 8.7 million. After navigating the situation, Farber reraised again, this time to 19.4 million!

That’s when things went completely off-the-chains.

McLaughlin saw Farber’s raise and decided to push all his remaining chips into the table. As if there wasn’t enough drama, Farber quickly called, setting up the biggest pot of the tournament to date.

As the cards were turned, McLaughlin was devastated to see his KcKs usurped by Farber’s AsAh. The flop turned up 8s7s2h, keeping Farber’s aces ahead. The Jd on the turn didn’t help McLaughlin’s cause as he was down to one card to show a king to ensure his survival.

But alas, the river turned up Jc, eliminating McLaughlin from the tournament and giving Farber a massive chip lead amounting to 95 million with five players left in the Final Table.
