Toby Lewis is one of those rare commodities that is able to bring his “A” game to both the online and live multi-table tournament (MTT) arenas on a consistent basis. He is currently ranked 6th in the UK Online PocketFives rankings and 1st in the Global Poker Index (GPI) live UK rankings.

“Yeah, I have been running pretty good lately. I have done a lot of work on my game and mixing with good players. I know how it works both live and online and its just putting it all into practice. Playing well and not making any mistakes.”

‘I have done a lot of work on my game,’ is a phrase that is lacking in many of the interviews that I carry out in the poker industry.

“I keep playing because I love it. Some people get successful then cool down and take time off, and this sets you back so quickly. The game evolves every week, so I always try and play a lot and keep learning through other peoples mistakes, or mimic what I see happening that is working well.”

Lewis is not only sweeping all before him in the online and live tournament arenas, he is also a highly successful backer with the likes of Chris Brammer, Craig McCorkell and Sam Grafton all winning big from under the wing of Lewis. In a world where everyone seems to have more make up that Estee Lauder, how does he do it?

“I have learned from other peoples mistakes, and I have gotten pretty lucky with the players I have backed. They are all top class players. Every business is ran differently. I have my style of doing things and other people have theirs. I think I’ve ran pretty good, but they have also put a lot of hard work in. That’s all you can ask really. Everyone has a losing and winning street, but hard work will bring you out on top.”

Toby Lewis failed to continue his great form, busting late on during Day Two of WPT Barcelona, and his next live tournament will be the European Poker Tour (EPT) Season 9 event in Berlin.
