Interview with Jesse May at the WPT Venice Grand Prix – Day 1A

Jesse May is one of the best sports commentators in the business. I use the word ‘sports’ because you could stick this man in front of game of tiddlywinks, hand him a mic and he will make it sound like the most interesting thing you have ever seen. Checkout as Lee talks to Kara Scott and Mike Sexton at WPT Venice Day 1A

May first started commentating by complete accident. It was 1999 at Late Night Poker. May was running a book in the Green room when the producers entered frantically looking for someone to help with the commentating. May put his hand up and the rest is history.

Not only does May have a deep understanding of the game of poker, but he understands how poker people tick and he has earned the respect of the biggest names in the game. Not afraid to say it how it is, he combines attitude, authenticity and a razor sharp-deadpan wit to keep you on your seats, crying or laughing your bollocks off all at the right time.

But the greatest thing about May is his hard working ethic. When you are watching players in televised 48-hr cash games; May is doing the same in the booth. His dedication and love of the game is unparalleled.

Last week during the PartyPoker Premier League VI, May was back doing what he does best. Not only was his commentary first-class, but also his segment work to keep us occupied whilst the cameras were down, was some of the best I have seen.

I caught up with May during WPT Venice Day 1A where he was watching the action. Here is what he had to say about the PartyPoker Premier League VI.
