It’s props time

prop betsOne thing that we really like here at CalvinAyre.com is the industry trend towards offering more and more specialist odds. This can be anything from the latest on what will happen to Facebook over the next year to in line betting on episodes of British soaps. Over the years, there have been a number of different types of props offered out to the adoring betting public and if those in bygone eras could look into the future they’d be getting straight on the props. Imagine being able to bet in-play on the fate of Henry VIII’s wives.

A sure fire way to find a prop bet is to wait until February. Whilst the film world is creaming itself over the Oscars, sports and the American public at large comes to a standstill for the Super Bowl. Thanks to everything else that comes with the Super Bowl these bets never disappoint. Some of the best came in last year’s game between the Packers and Steelers. Being that Brett Favre was once THE man in Green Bay the prop bets offered on how many times FOX mentions “Brett Favre” during the game is one of our favorites. Speaking about Favre, isn’t it about time he came back now anyways?

We spoke to Alex Donohue from Ladbrokes on the subject of props and what the current crop offer. When asked of his favorite-ever seasonal props, Donohue said: “Queen’s speech catchphrase bingo is always a winner,” whilst we should look out for, “worldwide White Christmas odds, top TV programme among others.”

They all pale into insignificance when compared to our favorite props to ever be offered involving the current time of the year and a straw goat. Swedish city of Gävle plays host to the yule goat and it has become a tradition for residents of the city to try and burn the bastard down. Bookmakers have offered odds for some years on how long the goat stays standing over the Xmas period. This year’s version lasted a mere five days and the percentage of goats to have survived is a paltry 45%.
