RankRank Group are calling for UK gambling industry laws to be harmonized with online and land-based operators paying the same rates. Chief executive and chairman Ian Burke wrote in the firm’s latest paper “a level playing field for land-based operators will provide greater protection for consumers.” Rank become the second company in as many weeks to start chatting about the proposed changes after William Hill made its position clear exactly a week ago.

Rank identified three benefits that changes would bring, which are:

“Fairness – by removing arbitrary distinctions in the taxation of the same gaming products and thus guarding against market distortion;

“Responsibility – by encouraging the development of highly supervised licensed gaming venues, where adults can enjoy themselves safely; and

“Sustainability – by encouraging all operators to make a fair contribution to the UK economy through stable tax yields for the Exchequer and by stimulating job creation in the UK, through increased.”

The UK Treasury is expected to release the results of a long consultation into the country’s gambling industry laws later this week. Even though this could be out within the next couple of weeks, any changes are a long way off as existing legislation would need to be revised to allow altarations.
