las vegas weddingLove drunk couples looking to get hitched are flocking to Vegas this week to marry on the lucky day of Friday 11/11/11. So far, it is estimated that the date will see weddings for at least 3,500 couples who have applied for marriage licenses at the Clerk’s office in Clark County, Las Vegas. And with a day to go, it’s thought that even more may arrive to join in on the gaming mecca matrimonies.

In a report by MSNBC, Clark County Clerk Diana Alba said she has urged couples to plan ahead as her license bureau prepared for a bombardment of applications, with an average of one coming in every 20 minutes.

While there’s all this love in the air, businesses owners up and down the Strip will be rubbing their hands together, especially the 100-plus wedding chapels promoting 11/11/11 packages and hotel complexes – where couples will want to make an extra special time of their first night as newly weds. Nudge nudge, wink wink.

David Nye of the A Elvis Chapel, said: “Forty couples are expected to exchange vows on the day. That’s compared to our average of forty a week. Logistically, it will be a challenge, but a lot of fun.”

Another Chapel worker, Aimee Stephens of Chapel of the Flowers, said: “It’s been pretty spectacular and has given us a tremendous boost. The chapel has called in more workers, hired additional chauffeurs and rented extra limousines to accommodate couples. Chapel of the Flowers officiates at least 20 weddings on a typical Friday, compared to the 77 on the books this week.”

With many believing that getting married on triple numbers is lucky, we’re sure the casinos on the strip won’t be doing too bad as a result of the lucky wedding day either. They should note, however, to make the most of it while they can and not forget there’s only 12 months in the year. And even if there was a 13th month, who’d want to marry on that number?
