Googel Vs FacebookGoogle isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to being called a social media copy cat. Google executive, Bradley Horowitz, VP of Product at Google+, has fired back at Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his dismissive claim that Google+ is Google’s “own little version of Facebook.”

In an interview with Bloomberg TV, Horowitz, who is one of those most heavily involved in Google+’s development, responded to Zuckerberg’s belittlement by saying:

“We are delighted to be underestimated – it’s served us very well to date.”

Horowitz went on to talk about the Android developer‘s new brand pages, which were rolled out to all businesses and organisations worldwide yesterday. He emphasised that Google+ is less a direct competitor (or “little version”) of Facebook and rather a new way of using all of Google’s existing products.

The new Google+ Pages allow brands, products, companies, businesses, places, groups, and everyone else to establish a presence on the service. The product is a lot like Facebook Pages, except tis time, Google have one over Facebook as they can dig the Google+ pages deep in its search product – the biggest search engine in the world.

It’s only last month that one of Google’s own employees labelled Google+ a “failure” stating that it is “a knee-jerk reaction” and simply cannot cater to as many people as Facebook.

It may not have as many users as Facebook, but Google+ is still relatively new and like most things, we have to give it time to grow and show us what it can do. DesHorowitz declined to disclose signup and usage statistics, pointing to Google’s third-quarter earnings announcement last month, during which the company reported more than 40 million people had registered for the service to date. But Horowitz did say that the network has “grown significantly” since then. What about you – do you see Google+ ever being in the same league as Facebook?
