The new game logo which has currently replaced the site's homescreen

Rockstar Games, who has brought us past delights such as LA Noire – announced today that there will be a Grand Theft Auto V game by replacing its website’s homescreen with what will presumably be the new game’s logo.

This will be the latest in the company’s hit series of open-world games, which in past instalments has included the always-entertaining pursuits of paying for prostitutes (before running them over), blowing civilians up with a rocket launcher and running from the police in a tank.

There is also news that a trailer will be released next week on November 2 so we can see the improvements on the last title: GTA IV, which was released way back in 2008. But sadly enough, that was the only news the new banner brought with it. Oh, the company also posted a tweet that just pointed back to its website with no additional commentary. We don’t even know what platforms the game will be released on yet, though it is likely: all of them.

Though with this exciting news, gamers can’t be too upset. There is only a week to go before we can see some real-time gameplay. And at least that’s SOME news, as gamers have been eagerly anticipating GTA V for some time now.

There have been plenty of rumours over the past year, including  that the “V” in the logo represents a $5 bill, suggesting that the game may be set in a city resembling Washington, DC. There’s also been suspicious domains and casting calls, pointing to the game’s development – all of which have been sending fans in a frenzy. Some might argue that Rockstar would have been better off just debuting the game with the trailer to leave gamers with their jaws open, instead of hyping up the footage for next week. Nevertheless, today’s announcement is the first time Rockstar has acknowledged that the game even exists. So think yourselves lucky.

What do you think, are you eagerly anticipating the release?
