blackberry-says-sorryBlackBerry manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM) is trying to make amends for last week’s service outage by offering customers free apps and a month of technical support.

The New York Post reports that the Canadian company’s premium apps, collectively worth more than $100, will be made available over the coming weeks on BlackBerry App World. They include iSpeech Translator, Bejeweled and Texas Hold’em Poker 2 with the offer running until the end of the year. Research in Motion will also offer its enterprise customers a month of free technical support, which will come in handy judging by last week’s performance.

Will this ass kissing be enough to make up for the shortage that left millions of customers with phones that could only be used as…a phone? Or is the damage already done? We don’t know about kissing, but some serious RIMin’ is in order to ensure loyal users continue sucking on blackberries as opposed to apples. It didn’t help that the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) service, which is a beloved aspect of many BlackbBerry users’ lives worldwide, was unavailable.

Perhaps giving a few free apps isn’t apologetic enough. It may leave customers feeling bought or annoyed, and in the perfect frame of mind to go out and buy a shiny new iPhone 4S.

While other phone manufacturers such as Samsung is having problems of its own in the form of patent infringements/injunctions/court cases – all that heavy shit meaning they may be unable to sell their products in certain countries – it looks like Apple are the ones in front on the smartphone race.

Apple has managed to surpass the previous year’s records of iPhone sales as the company announced today the iPhone 4S has sold over 4 million units in its first three days on sale. When we worked this out, we found that this means one in 1700 people on the planet already own the new iPhone. Doesn’t sound that impressive, right? But when you consider adding this on to those with previous iPhone models, that makes one in 60 people on the entire earth owners of an iPhone of some sort. Just to put things into perspective for you.

Additionally, Apple announced that the iPhone 4S, which is currently available in seven countries, will be available in 22 more countries on October 22. By the end of the year, the iPhone 4S will be available in more than 70 countries. World domination is just around the corner.
