Thousands headed down to the Las Vegas strip at the weekend to suck on Jimmy Buffett’s massive cocktail.
Revellers witnessed the erection of the Coral Reefer Band singer’s mammoth margarita as it stood proud outside his new Margaritaville casino, which follows the success of his restaurant chain of the same name. Being the world’s largest cocktail, Jimmy named it Lucky Rita. And my wasn’t Rita lucky; the 8,500 gallon Guiness World Record-breaking whopper ensured there was enough to go around, serving up 181,333 12-inch ounce measures. Loaded with juicy goodness, the enormous concoction consisted of 2,125 gallons of Margaritaville Gold Tequila, 708 gallons of Margaritaville Triple Sec, 5,667 Gallons of Margarita Mix, it plus 22,267 limes. Ooh Jimmy.
Of course, Big boy Buffett himself was there to toast the cinching of the record, making a toast to veterans of the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team ($5 of each gallon sold was donated to the cause). More Jimmy lovin’ than you can shake a shot glass at.
It is reported by USAToday that Buffett talked to veteran celebrity chronicler Robin Leach at the event, declaring that another Margaritaville Casino is due to open soon in Biloxi, Mississippi. He also told Leach the first time he visited Vegas, he cashed in a plane ticket, won $50 gaming, then hopped a train to L.A., where he failed an audition to join the New Christy Minstrels. It’s safe to say Buffett can now laugh in the face of his past misfortunes, as he smugly exhibits his colossal combination of spirits and fruit for all to see.
If you’re in Vegas next Saturday, the casino is hosting another street party beginning at 11 a.m. And if after last weekend’s antics, there’s any of Jimmy’s big blend left to have a go at, you can have it fill your mouth alongside some live entertainment and interactive games. Just don’t ask us which kind. If you can’t make it however, you can always watch everyone else having all the fun while they build and drink the damn thing, here.
