blackberry_messenger_mast1BlackBerry Customers are beginning to tear their antennas out in rage over their phone’s manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM), which still hasn’t resolved its BlackBerry messenger service problem.

Today marks the third day of outages after the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) service went down at 11am GMT on Monday. It’s taken the company’s UK Managing Director, Stephen Bates, just as long to make a public statement in response to the smartphone crisis.

The Guardian reported that in his announcement this morning at the BlackBerry Innovation Forum in London, he said that staff at RIM in Slough thought they had found the problem, but had not. Reassuring words there, Stevie.

Admitting the problem is “not acceptable” Bates added: “We are working night and day to solve the outage and will not stop until we get to the end of the problem. Our apologies to all our customers.”

It seems that the disruptions come after RIM was attempting a software upgrade on its database but suffered corruption problems, and that attempts to switch back to an older version led to a collapse. If it ain’t broken…

The glitch couldn’t come at a worse time for Blackberry as rival Apple is scheduled to release its BBM competitor “iMessage” in its iPhone software update, iOS 5 today. And after losing out on a big portion of the smartphone market to the iPhone as well as Google’s Android phones over the past year, things are looking pretty dire for RIM.

Nevertheless, let us remind those who are screaming Blackberry murder that users suffering from the problem are still able use their devices to communicate by phone. Is it really that much harder to send a text over a BBM? We’d ask our friends for the answer but we no longer know anyone that still owns a Blackberry mobile. Go figure…
