LG competes with 3D smartphone

lg smartphoneIn their effort to carve out a piece of the pie of the smartphone market, LG Electronics has teamed up with the Calabasas-based DTS, the provider of surround sound and other audio technology. DTS released a press release announcing that LG Electronics is using its technology in a new smartphone.

DTS said its technology has been integrated into the LG Optimus 3D, to provide a 3D audio experience. Financial impact of the win was not announced. The new LG phone also offers up a glasses-free, 3D video experience.

In order to penetrate the smartphone market, LG knew they’d need something new, something that would turn heads and draw attention. They come up wit the LG Thrill 4G, for AT&T, already known internationally as the LG Optimus 3D, which the heralded as the world’s first glasses-free 3D smartphone.

Pressing a 3D button on the side of the phone opens up a carousel – like 3D menu with 5 options: Gallery, Youtube, Camera, Games & Apps, and Guide. The phone allows you to take both pictures and video in 3D, with its two 5MP cameras on the back of the phone. The phone also comes with pre -installed 3D games enjoyable including: Let’s Golf 2, Gulliver’s Travels, N.O.V.A., and Asphalt 6.

Although the 3D effect is the Optimus’s main selling point, experts have reviewed the phone and labelled it a solid smartphone, comparable to other top-of -the -line Android phones like the Photon 4G.

The Optimus 3D come with a TI OMAP 4 dual-core processor, making it one of the most powerful phones on the market. The phone features tri-dual technology in the form of dual-core CPU, dual-RAM, and dual-channel board configuration, which enables fast multitasking, smooth video, high frame rate for video games, and speedy web browsing.

Additional specs include a large 4.3 inches 800×480 pixel screen which features a front facing camera and is able to capture 1080p 2D High Definition Video and 720p 3D video.

As an added plus, users who own a 3D TV can upload 3D videos using the phone’s HDMI connection.The LG Optimus 3D has already been released internationally but will not be available in the US until September 4th.
