Facebook targeted by Anonymous HackersIf you believe in the power of hactivists and if you believe that they truly can’t be stopped, then you’re probably getting ready to shut down your Facebook account by November.

Rosie Gray of The Village Voice discovered a YouTube video last month in which Anonymous made its threat, er announcement that it will be targeting and shutting down Facebook on November 5th.

If you’ve been paying attention to how Anonymous rolls, you already know the exploits of this group. And if you’ve been on Facebook for any length of time, you also already know that hacking into a Facebook account isn’t the hardest thing to do for a regular person, like a sneaky ex-girlfriend…For a group of super hackers who sift effortlessly through some of the most complex security systems one would assume hacking into Facebook would be child’s- play.

But why Facebook? Why target anyone? Why hack? The reason is always different for every hactivist cause, but the theme is always the same, they’ve taken up some sort of cause which they claim is for the betterment of the people- but how many Facebook users are asking Anonymous to shut down the most popular social networking site in the world?

Anonymous has a big problem with Facebook’s privacy policies and they question the social network’s claim that it has not been selling personal information to the government. In the video message Anonymous charges that the site does not provide its users with enough choice or transparency.

“If you are a willing hacktivist or a guy who just wants to protect the freedom of information then join the cause and kill facebook for the sake of your own privacy,” – Anonymous said in a statement.

Isn’t this just a little creepy?

    i can't say i agree or disagree with the movement. What i do agree upon is that FaceBook does sell private information , and thats not right… But you know what its O.K because G+ will be taking over soon..
