Ayr United gets ever closer to the new Scottish Football League tonight as they host English Premier League champions Manchester United at Somerset Park. The match also sees the official unveiling of the new Bodog Ayr United jersey. The home side pulls it on for the first time since the deal was announced.
There will be plenty of excitement around the exclusive pre-game performance of the Somerset Boab at 6:30pm. What about the game itself though?
The Honest Men come into the fixture having dispatched Queen of the South in their first competitive game of the campaign. The Ramsden Cup 1st round tie went to extra time before Martyn Campbell and Andy Geggan sealed Ayr’s passage to the second round. New signing Alex Burke may also get a run out. Will any of it be enough to trouble a United side that can call on Champions League experience?
Fergie’s men ran out 7-1 winners in their last game against Spartans and in that side included two names that will be familiar to most. Goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak is perhaps better known for a number of calamities whilst in between the sticks and that may be where Ayr get some joy. Darron Gibson is another kettle of fish. The youngster, linked with a move away all summer, was recently in the news after departing Twitter. He lasted around two hours. Just to give you Ayr fans some ammo!
If you’re still yet to buy a ticket it might wise to get your ass down to Ayr Racecourse for 1:30pm for the free ticket giveaway. The first 50 people there will get a free ticket for both the races and evening’s action. You could also find yourself right here on the tablog as our very own Becky Liggero will be attending with that trusty camera of hers.
Last but by no means least…Calvin Ayre will be there!
Any Ayr fans wanting to find Calvin, the photo below should give you a pretty good idea of where he’ll be for large swathes of the night…
