There’s nothing quite like the Miss USA competition. This year the show was held in Las Vegas and for those who watched it on television, it’s one of the few shows on television that evokes strong emotional responses in both male and female viewers. For women, it’s all about the drama. For men, as soon as the swimsuit competition begins- my goodness.
It’s for TV shows like the Miss USA competition that you wish you had a 3D TV. 51 of America’s finest eye candy floating around in heels, showing off their talents, giving dumb answers to stupid questions, it’s like being on a date with the most beautiful girls in the USA- except you can recline on your couch, beer in one hand, the other hand down your pants, and it didn’t cost you a thing.
In droves, viewers tuned in to watch the competition. NBC’s presentation of the 2011 Miss USA competition dominated the air. According to TV Line, in total viewership, it was only edged out by 60 Minutes (7.25 mil to 7.35 mil). Additionally, this year’s Miss USA drew its biggest audience in four years.
How the judges can single out one of these girls out of all the fineness on stage is beyond me. But this year’s Miss USA competition winner was the California model Alyssa Campanella of Los Angeles.
She’s a bit of a weird one. She admits she’s a history geek obsessed with Britain’s monarchy. But she’s also a huge fan of Star Wars, which is bonus points in my book.
Being from California, Campanella was asked a question about the legality of marijuana, which she responded with,
“Well, I understand why that question would be asked, especially with today’s economy, but I also understand that medical marijuana is very important to help those who need it medically…I’m not sure if it should be legalized, if it would really affect, with the drug war…I mean, it’s abused today, unfortunately, so that’s the only reason why I would kind of be a little bit against it, but medically it’s OK.”
Bravo, I guess. But let’s face it, it’s her other ‘talents’ that put her over the top.
And she’s a redhead. Not a natural one, but hey, we’re not that picky.
Can’t wait for the Miss Universe pageant on Sept. 12 from Sao Paolo, Brazil.
