Facebook might be starting to lose its shine atop the social media pile with the growth of the site growing compared with a year ago. It was this time last year that the site surpassed half a billion users and looked set to reach even headier heights than that. Mashable reports that typical growth in a month in North America last year was around 20 million every month. This year that number dipped to 11.8million in May after going down to 13.9milion in April.
The decrease can be attributed to users actually upping and leaving the site. Facebook lost six million users in the US with Canada also seeing one-and-a-half decide the site would be a better place without them. In such a fast moving industry it would be no surprise were people to be simply opting to use Twitter as their site of choice. MySpace showed that it can happen and Marky Z had better be prepared.
The latest tablet to roll into the hands of Google’s Android is almost upon us as Toshiba’s Thrive has become available for preorder. Aiming to compete with the upper bracket of tablets it comes with a 10.1-inch screen, 1280 x 800 pixel screen, 1 GHz dual-core Tegra 2 CPU and a front and back camera.
The entry-level device comes in at $429.99 and for a 32GB incarnation you will have to part with $579.99. Whether it will stand up to the iPad will remain to be seen. If Android continues to go from strength-to-strength then devices around this sort of price range will be very successful.
