sugar rayI suppose dancing and prancing around on Dancing With The Stars, and mingling with a lot of sensitive and artistic people could soften anyone up. I’m wondering if it was in that sensitive state that Sugar Ray Leonard decided after all these years, to write a book that describes how he was sexually abused.

Sugar Ray Leonard is arguably one of the best boxers, pound for pound of all time. He moved with grace, and elegance, and he struck with power, blinding speed and had the type of footwork that made you want to jump up and dance. He was a very bad man in that ring. The world will soon know another side to the legendary boxer as Leonard has written an autobiography titled “The Big Fight: My Life In and Out of the Ring,” in which he describes how he was sexually assaulted by his Olympic boxing coach.

In hindsight, the fact that Sugar Ray was going through that type of abuse makes his achievements that much more incredible. Keeping in mind that this abuse took place during the 1970’s and the fact that Sugar Ray won a gold medal at the 1976 Olympics and you get the picture of a boxer fighting for his life in and out of the ring.

Most people already have a lot of respect for Sugar Ray Leonard as a boxer, I’m sure there are those who have experienced similar abuses that will read his book and take some inspiration from it.

Now, I would buy the book when it is released next month, but I still feel Sugar Ray owes me for my lost bets when he was voted off DWTS 12 so soon. A man that has feet like and dances like he did in the ring should have done much better. I’m not hating, I’m just saying. Someone who lost money on their Sugar Ray Leonard DWTS bet feels me.

I wonder if that sexual abuse contributed to his becoming an excellent fighter. It is said that boxing coaches discourage their fighters to engage in sex (with women) 4 months before the actual boxing match, because they say it can only weaken their legs. I wonder if it applies to “sex with men” as well. Hahahaha! :D
