Red or Black gaming reality TV show set to make UK debut

simon cowellIt has always been my personal opinion that the gambling industry needed its own reality television show. I’m aware that there is live poker, but I’ve always felt that a reality show about casino games would be thrilling to watch as much as those games are to play.

Simon Cowell, the reality television mastermind behind hit shows like Britain’s Got Talent, American Idol and X-Factor will soon be airing a new reality television show that is as close as it could get to a gambling reality TV show. The show titled Red or Black will be hosted by Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly who will preside over contestants “risking their luck” to win £1M on the spin of a wheel.

The show asked the UK a simple question, ‘Do you feel lucky?’

According to the show’s website, over one hundred thousand applied to be on the show, and next month the successful applicants are about to find out just how lucky they are. The show begins live in June at the Red or Black Arena in Wembley with a series of spectacular events, each with two possible outcomes – Red or Black. Each challenge at the Arena has a 50/50 outcome, and if the contestant can guess the outcome correctly they will be one step closer to winning the £1million prize.

As the show advertises, they don’t have to sing, they don’t have to dance – at each stage they just have to answer one simple question – Red or Black?

Yeah, sounds like a game of chance to me. You wonder how long it will be before a version of this show catches on in the United States where they also love their reality television. It will also be interesting to see how bettors respond to this show as they will essentially be betting on a bettor.
