Apple’s next foray into the smart phone looks set to be in September. Reports on the Reuters news wire suggest that production of Apple’s “iPhone 5” will begin this July with the product set to ship in the ninth month of the year. The sources cited are “three people familiar with the matter.” The plans are yet to be made public and have not been confirmed by the technology giant themselves.
The device will have a faster processor than the current iPhone 4 although it’s not known whether it will come close to Samsung’s 2GHz dual-core that is set to land next year. It also won’t look any different to the iPhone 4, which will disappoint those who were hoping for it to be transformed into the shape of a chewed up apple core. The news will be exciting for those developing Galaxy S handsets as they find increasingly more ways to try to piss off Steve Jobs and company.
In other technology news, another tablet is attempting to land at the tablet airstrip as they attempt to use the advantageous market conditions. T-Mobile’s G-Slate will be on the shelves in North America later today and at first glance is almost exactly the same as the Motorola Xoom, except for the screen size of 8.9-inches. The device is developed by electronics firm LG and will sell at around about $529 with a $100 rebate and two-year data plan – slightly less than the Xoom at $749. It runs the Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS that is still far-from being the finished article. Our advice is to surrender yourself to Apple for now and see how tasty the Honeycomb is in about six months time.
