Google and Apple newsAlthough their revenues are on the increase, Google’s first quarter results showed that earnings fell slightly short of Wall Street estimates. The world’s biggest search engine, and owner of the Android OS, generated revenue of $8.58billion, representing an increase of 27% on the same period in 2010. They also reported an operating profit of $2.8bn that was also up 15% year on year from the same period alluded to earlier.

Patrick Pichette, Google’s CFO, said, “These results demonstrate the value of search and search ads to our users and customers, as well as the extraordinary potential of areas like display and mobile, which is where we continue to invest.”

In terms of the earnings per share mentioned earlier, Wall Street expected them to reach $8.12 per share whereas the actual figure was $8.08. Not much but it’s still a significant figure for a company that usually likes to show flawless performance.

It comes as Google is facing pressure to hang on to its best members of staff as the sharks that are Facebook and Twitter attempt to wrest the best staff away from them. The gaming industry knows only too well how important having the best staff is towards the success of the company. You only have to look at the effort being made by Bodog as an example of how important it is to being successful.

Their Android OS should also contribute towards their success as it continues to beat all comers in the mobile gaming operating system sector and will have Apple quaking in its shiny silver boots.

Talking of Apple, today they unveiled the latest version of their iOS, 4.3.2, and it really doesn’t do a massive amount at all. According to technology site, Mashable, the difference is only really noticeable when using Facetime as it fixes the blacking out and freezing that was present before. It also gives you the chance to run Android and iOS concurrently on a device and can walk the dog at the same time. Ok, well maybe those last two were lies but we’re trying to make it a little bit more exciting Apple. You dig?
