The most able ICT countriesA survey by the World Economic Forum (WEF) has found that two hotbeds of the online gaming industry are the most competitive countries when it comes to the digital economy.

The survey found that Nordic and Asian nations were best at using information and communications technologies in order to boost their growth with Sweden and Singapore top of the list in terms of specific countries.

The WEF said that ICT was “a key enabler of a more economically, environmentally and socially sustainable world.”

Elsewhere, in terms of other Nordic countries in the top ten, Finland took third spot whereas Denmark and Norway were in seventh and ninth spot respectively.

In order to rank countries the report looked at three areas. They were the general business, regulatory and infrastructure environment for ICT; the readiness of the three key stakeholder sectors – individuals, businesses and governments – to use and benefit from ICT; and the actual usage of available ICT.

Last week’s iGaming Forum in Stockholm only went to show how important a market the Scandinavian one is in the online gaming industry and be able to use ICT most successfully on a worldwide basis only goes to reiterate this.

The biggest movers on the list were South Korea and Taiwan who both rose five places. Finland also deserve a mention as their place in third represented a rise of three places on last year.

The top ten was as follows:

1. Sweden
2. Singapore
3. Finland
4. Switzerland
5. USA
6. Taiwan
7. Denmark
8. Canada
9. Norway
10. South Korea
