canucks It was only a matter of time before it happened, and now, PlayNow.com is announcing the launch of their online poker product. The product will allow British Columbians to play poker online against their peers and compete in tournaments on the Canadian Poker Network (CPN) which is powered by GTECH G2.

Players will be able to play online against other residents in the province as well as with players on the Loto Quebec online gambling site, EspaceJeux.com.

PlayNow.com’s start up problems were well known, and their gaffs were well documented, let’s hope this isn’t another debacle, that’s the last thing the gaming industry needs right now.

Would it surprise you if you could see everyone’s cards?

One advantage of having a government regulated and run online gambling site aside from the luxury of having pure incompetence go unpunished; is that they can run pretty cool promotions with local professional teams.

To promote the launch of their new poker product, PlayNow.com is holding a promotional tournament where two grand prizes will be awarded in this tournament. Each Grand Prize includes two tickets to the Vancouver Canucks game, including food and drink in a luxury box at Rogers Arena.

It’s a great promo, no question. This year especially with team amongst the best in the NHL, Canucks tickets are more precious than gold to BC residents. Seriously, Canadians love hockey and they love poker, without question plenty of people will sign up accounts and register in this tournament to have a chance at those tickets. The event is limited to the first 400 entries, but will probably be won by some shark. The tournament begins on Thursday February 24th and buy in is $5.

I wonder if they will stop people who do not reside in BC from playing on this new site?

technically I have been advised that its illegal for provinces to take bets over provincial lines…I heard there was an actual judicial decision on this in eastern Canada. However, I personally think they are nuts to not find a way to let anyone play who wants to….thats the entire point really.

And I doubt you will ever see any one working for this crown corporation ever in any trouble if a non -resident is proven to have snuck in…even if its a US resident. Its hard to imagine a situation where a BC Government employee is pulled off a plane in the US for example and its just as hard to imagine any Canadian court convicting any of them for letting a non resident play. It will be the same when the US states get into the game in our opinion.

i have been predicting for years that once the US is in the game, which everyone now thinks is only a matter of when, not if….they will find a way to let the world play with them…and I will actually support them if they do this as why would then not….they have the worlds best tech and marketing talent, why hold back.
