Daytona 500 is the weekend to show NASCAR love

nascarNASCAR is one of those sports that get’s little attention anywhere outside of the United States and even then, not everywhere in the US embraces this sport. But people sure as hell do bet on it!

The Daytona 500 is almost without question the most important and prestigious race on the NASCAR calendar, it certainly carries with the most bang for the buck and the most buck for the bank by carrying by far the largest purse on the NASCAR circuit.

Today, sportsbooks were paying close attention to the Gatorade duels as the field of drivers fought for pole position at the Daytona 500. Kurt Busch won the first of the qualifying races, which set the field for the Daytona 500 and Jeff Burton won the second Daytona 500 qualifying race by beating teammate Clint Bowyer to the finish line. The popular bets for this weekend will be on Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart and anyone with a last name that ends in Busch.

If there was one weekend to show love to NASCAR, this weekend would be it. On Sunday February 20th they’ll start their engines and the Daytona 500 will get underway. I don’t claim to fully understand the sport of NASCAR driving but I do know that it must take an incredible amount of skill to drive a vehicle with that kind of power at those speeds in that close of proximity to other vehicles for such a long period of time. Also, NASCAR racing is not just about the driver, the pit crew and the people that get those vehicles humming at optimal capacity also have a huge role in the success of the driver. If you watch the race for a little while this Sunday, you’ll see what I’m talking about.
But let’s face it, the real reasons most people will be watching the NASCAR Daytona 500 are to see some crashes!
