Facebook hacked

did hackers crash bc gambling websiteAhh, Facebook, for a social network site that holds millions of people’s “private” information, pictures and videos, it’s security is about as reliable as a narcoleptic watchman.

I personally know dozens of friends who have had their Facebook account broken into, and I’m sure many of you can say the same thing. For some people it happens multiple times. And while the messages posted on people’s accounts after they’ve been compromised can be hilarious (ie. “Missed work, took too much Viagra, trying to sleep it off”) it shows a serious lack of security.

The lax security of Facebook has recently come to the forefront when Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s fan page was hacked yesterday.

The hacker(s) left messages on Zuckerberg’s page under his name that read: “Let the hacking begin: If Facebook needs money, instead of going to the banks, why doesn’t Facebook let its users invest in Facebook in a social way? Why not transform Facebook into a ‘social business’ the way Nobel Price winner Muhammad Yunus described it? http://bit.ly/fs6rT3 What do you think?

Apparently other people, perhaps other hackers agreed, because the message received more than 1,800 “likes” before it was finally removed from the page. Not sure when hacking became a business consultant type practice, but here we are. While we’re at it, here’s a novel idea, pretty much everyone has a webcam, how about facial recognition for Facebook? Maybe I should be a hacker.

Facebook hasn’t commented on the incident, but they should be concerned. My advice, they should hire the hackers who are using their site as a playground and have them build security measures to make the site more secure.

Keep your friends close and your hackers closer.
