Who knows just how many people have Jack Lalanne to thank for the extra years on this planet they’ve been afforded thanks to his push for better fitness and health. Labelled as father of the fitness movement, undoubtedly, Lalanne was one of the first pioneers to preach to the couch potato to get his ass off that fouton and into the gym.
Before there was Tae-bo there was Jack Lalanne. Many of us remember the ultra fit Lalanne making vegetable cocktails and pumping iron and encouraging us all to do the same. LaLanne died Sunday at his home in Morro Bay from respiratory complications due to pneumonia, he was 95 years old when he finally went to that fitness club in the sky.
We shouldn’t soon forget Lalanne and what he stood for, the length of our lives may depend on it. Let’s face it, after this week, with the ICE Totally Gaming and the LAC many of us gambling industry professionals could benefit from breaking out Jack LaLanne’s Power Juicer and repairing some of the damage to our bodies from days of drinking, gambling and carrying on. Just remember to taper first.
It’s 2011 people, there’s no reason we can’t be more fit this year. It’s not a complete lifestyle change I’m talking about, it’s a lifestyle upgrade. It’s adding a workout regime into your busy schedule no matter what the cost. Make room, make time, the benefits far exceed washboard abs and perky biceps, it could add years to your life.
You don’t need fancy machines, or weight loss gimmicks to be fit, and you don’t need to completely restructure your life either. Lalanne started out with nothing but a chair and a towel, certainly we could do better.
It doesn’t take long to upgrade your fitness lifestyle, we’re talking about just 45 minutes a day of physical activity here. You can start out simple, try 20 minutes of cardio on an exercise bike or treadmill or go for a leisurely jog. Then finish up with pushups or burpies and situps to build your core. You’ll feel great and you’ll even look better, but more importantly you’ll probably live longer and shag better.
Anyone can do it. More and more it’s becoming evident that age is a state of mind, it’s how you feel. Lalanne often said he never ever thought of his age, even at 43 in 1957, he performed more than 1,000 push-ups in 23 minutes!
Let’s make 2011 the year the gaming industry upgrades our fitness lifestyles! Enjoy the ICE and LAC this week!
