I understand your pain, I'm here to help

If Ron Artest had a checklist of things to accomplish in his life it’s a safe bet that much of that list has been checked off. Graduate from HS, check, play in the NBA, check, go into the stands and beat the fuck out of fans in Detroit, check, conquer mental health issues, check, restore image, check, defensive player of the year, check, win NBA Championship, check, donate millions to helping other defeat mental issues, check!

Ron Artest over the years has been described as many things, but the one moniker that describes him best is that of a philanthropist. Artest helped the Lakers win the second of their back-to-back championships, and won a place in the hearts of the the Hollywood faithful. But it’s what Artest does off the court that has truly made him an inspiration.

Artest currently plans to auction off his NBA championship ring to raise money for and increase awareness of mental-health issues in schools. Artest himself has struggled with mental health issues and he wants to make sure other people, especially children have the chance to get the care and help he got. Without question, mental health issues with the youth, are responsible for a number of problems ranging anywere from gambling addiction to drug and alcohol abuse.

It’s beyond honorable of Artest to do such a thing, considering there are NBA greats like Karl Malone who would donate body parts to have an NBA Championship ring. But Artest isn’t stopping there, he is now contemplating donating all of his $6.79 million dollar salary to charity.

It’s the holiday season, and with that, it’s a time for giving. The gaming industry knows what giving and charity is all about, and let’s follow Ron Artest’s lead in giving by kicking the grinch in the junk this Christmas and donating to those less fortunate.
