Busted cheating? Gamble too much? Blame it on genetics

Have you ever had the unfortunate experience of being caught red-handed cheating on your significant other? What did you do? Did you blame it on the juice that got you feeling loose or did you just deny it, deny it, and deny it some more, like some men do. You know the guys I’m talking about, the guys who could get caught in mid stroke with some hussy bent over the couch, and still look his girl in the face and say “it wasn’t me”… Well guys, that guy might be right, it’s not our fault, it’s in our blood, well, for some of us anyways.

A new study has come to light in which researchers are linking sexual promiscuity and infedelity to genetics. Raise your hand if you like where this is going! Researchers at Binghampton University have come up with a theory that links sexual promiscuity and infidelity to variations in a gene which has lead them to believe the reason some people have reckless no strings attached, one night stand style, uncommitted sex and cheat on their girlfriends with anything in mini skirt pumps and a tube top, may boil down to good old biology.

The DRD4 gene has been linked, through previous studies, to feel-good, sensation-seeking behavior such as the use of alcohol, illegal drugs and gambling. This is because variations in the gene influence how readily the body accepts dopamine. So let’s see, drinking, check, gambling, check, carrying on with uncommitted sex…check. Looks like we’re all covered. Justin Garcia, a SUNY doctoral diversity fellow in the laboratory of evolutionary anthropology and health at BU, described the results of the study, β€œIn cases of uncommitted sex, the risks are high, the rewards substantial and the motivation variable β€” all elements that ensure a dopamine rush.” When that dopamine gets released in the body, it causes pleasure, which is where the sexual promiscuity issue comes into play. So there it is, imagine that, having sex is instinctual in men, you don’t say?

You always knew one day science would come along help you out in a pinch. Of course I would have preferred a time machine or cyborg love bot, but this will do for now. It’s interesting that the results of the study showed that students with the genetic variation were twice as likely as those without it to engage in sexually promiscuous behavior. In addition, 50 percent of those with the gene variation had been unfaithful in a relationship, while only 22 percent of those without the variation had.

Gentlemen, some of us are fighting a battle we’re simply not designed to win. Gambling, drinking, carrying on, we’re just doing what we’re programmed to do. Maybe that guy who gets caught with his pants around his ankles with cleaning lady’s legs on his shoulders has always known all along, “It’s not my fault, it wasn’t me”…there’s some truth to that blatant denial, blame it on genetics.

Makes you wonder about some women too, if only we could tell just by looking which ones have sex in those apple bottom genes.
