It’s Time We Kick the Grinch in the Junk

Don't be a GrinchThe gaming industry is a giving lot. We are always in there first to build orphanages in Central America or we’re always willing to raise money after natural disasters like the earthquake in Haiti. That’s why it’s doubly important that we find ways to give back during the holidays. Let’s make sure the little children in our communities have a meal in their bellies and a toy under their tree.

We’re calling on the gaming industry to find ways to give back to the communities where we work and live.

It doesn’t take much, instead of buying a couple bottles of Grey Goose on a Saturday night, you can donate some money, toys or winter clothes to your local charity. Try to find one that specializes in doing good for your local community.

Our industry is thriving, every day we talk about big bets, multi-million dollar mergers and billion dollar IPOs. We have it good but remember the recession isn’t over. There will be children in your neighbourhood who won’t get anything for Christmas and we can make a difference.

Instead of wasting our money on an iPhone app that makes our phone sound like a light saber, we can buy some toy trucks or Barbie dolls to give to kids for Christmas.

Don’t let the holiday season be an #Epicfail

Some in the industry have already started giving back. Our friends at the Morris Mohawk Gaming group have raised over $1300 by selling heavily discounted computers to their staff. The employees get inexpensive computers and all of the money raised is going to the Kahnawake Shakotiia’takehnhas Community Services (KSCS). The KSCS used the money to give food vouchers so that local families could have a nice Christmas dinner.

The small act by Morris and the MMG management inspired the staff to do their part as the employees are running a food drive, collecting winter clothes and toys on their own to donate to the KSCS.

If your company is doing something to make the holiday season better for your local community, we’d LOVE to hear about it. Send us the details through our Breaking News link and we’ll be sure you are recognized for doing your part.

We have the privilege to work in the thriving gaming industry. So let’s all do our part to kick the Grinch in the junk.
